Very good article - I reckon about the 1 degree of separation.

I heard yesterday a mother on the radio, she lost her son and was engaged in voluntarism to help others, this happens a lot. Beyond Grom's showing the importance of being with someone you trust, there is also a therapeutic virtue of helping other people in need. This is the current therapy for everyone in Israel, as you mentioned, everyone is trying to help.

It is ironic Hamas is teaching a Sartrean lesson. You should know that Sartre supported the 1972 Munich terrorist attack, he wrote "In this war, the only Palestinians's weapon is terrorism. This is a terrible one, but the oppressed have no other; French people who approve of terrorism in Algeria should also approve of Palestinian terrorism. This betrayed people, abandoned and exiled, can only show its courage and the strength of their hate by organizing deadly attacks." It is likely Sartre today would have been among those who refuse to call Hamas terrorists and who advocate to justify their actions. Don't quote him :)

Bertie- I have been following your beautiful Substack blog for a few months… all the while harboring a bizarre notion that our families have known each other in the past. If I say Spanish &Portuguese Synagogue, the beautiful Franco and Beispil families might I have struck a chord?

Even if not- your meditations on life, kids, medicine and Judaism are always brilliantly thought out and a pleasure to read.

BTW - Dani BROM is the person you referenced in the article! As happens he’s our neighbor here in Jerusalem AND we (the Cardozo-Tenebaum) are collaborating w him on projects to address the acute cases of PTSD which need some good clinicians (and not just receptive witnesses).

I truly bless your efforts to speak with such honesty and intelligence. It has the effect that Dani describes of feeling heard — especially in this evil echo chamber that much of the world has become.

Yachad - nenatze’ach. No question.
